Have You Received a 'Negative Option' Notice From Your Insurance Company?

Some of our clients have recently received a letter from their insurance company referring to a "Negative Option Feature" or automatic renewal. We understand the wording can be confusing, and we want to reassure you that this notice does not mean there is a problem with your policy.

Why did I receive this notice?

Massachusetts regulations now require insurance companies to notify policyholders when a policy is eligible for automatic renewal. This disclosure is required by state law for policies that renew automatically unless the policyholder or insurance company takes action.

Does this change my insurance coverage?

No. This notice does not change your coverage, premium, or renewal status. It is simply an informational notice required by state regulations.

Do I need to do anything?

In most cases, no action is required. If you are happy with your coverage, your policy will continue through the normal renewal process. If you have questions about your renewal, your premium, or would like us to review your coverage, please contact our office. We are always happy to help.

Why are insurance companies sending these notices?

These notices are required by Massachusetts regulations to ensure consumers understand how automatic renewals work and that they have the right to cancel or seek coverage elsewhere before their policy renews. They are being sent as a legal disclosure-not because there is an issue with your policy.

As always, thank you for trusting Gilmore & Farrell Insurance. If you have any questions about this notice or any other insurance matter, please don't hesitate to contact us.
